Islamorada mile markers: where everything sits on US 1

The short answer

Islamorada's mile markers run from MM 90.0 at the north end to MM 72.6 at the south, according to the Village, and the numbers fall as you drive south on US 1. From north to south you cross Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe Key and Lower Matecumbe Key. Our table lists every place with a posted mile marker, from Plantation Tropical Preserve at MM 90.8 to Anne's Beach at MM 73.5, each with its source.

On US 1, the Overseas Highway, Keys addresses are given by mile marker, and the Village says Islamorada sits between Mile Marker 90.0 and Mile Marker 72.6. The numbers go down as you drive south. Street numbers roughly follow them: Theater of the Sea gives 84721 Overseas Hwy as Mile Marker 84.5, and Robbie’s gives 77522 as Mile Marker 77.5. The table below uses only markers a source has published. The most detailed chart on page one of search results was compiled in early 2003; ours was checked on October 21, 2026.

The keys in order, north to south

Heading south, US 1 crosses Plantation Key, then the Snake Creek Bridge onto Windley Key, then the Whale Harbor Bridge onto Upper Matecumbe Key. After that come the Tea Table and Indian Key Channel bridges across Indian Key Fill, and then the Irving R. Eyster Bridge onto Lower Matecumbe Key. The bridge names come from OpenStreetMap’s map data. The Village also lists Tea Table Key as one of its five inhabited islands. Indian Key and Lignumvitae Key are state park islands you reach only by boat or kayak, and are not among the Village’s five. FDOT puts the Tea Table Relief Bridge at Mile Marker 79.8 and says it received final acceptance of that bridge’s rehabilitation on January 27, 2025.

Places by mile marker

Each row is a place with a posted mile marker, linked to the page that posts it. “Side” appears only when the source says bayside or oceanside. Where the source does not name the key, it comes from the place’s map pin relative to the bridges.

Places with no posted mile marker

These post a street address but no mile marker, so they stay out of the table (street-number order):

Where the sources disagree

  • The north end. The Village says Islamorada starts at MM 90.0, but its Parks & Beaches page posts Plantation Tropical Preserve at MM 90.8. We show both and do not resolve them.
  • Indian Key. Florida State Parks gives MM 78.5 for the island, and FWC gives Mile Marker 79 for the Indian Key Fill ramp. FWC lists that ramp as temporarily closed for repairs, while the park’s kayak page still says to launch there. The island itself has been completely closed since April 2026.
  • The 2003 chart. It puts Anne’s Beach at MM 73.4, while the Village says MM 73.5 oceanside. It puts the Chamber’s red caboose at MM 82.2, while the Chamber now lists its visitor center at 87100 Overseas Hwy, Mile Marker 87 bayside.
  • The Hurricane Monument. The National Park Service gives US 1 at MM 81.5. Some secondary listings say MM 82, and we use the NPS figure.
  • The History of Diving Museum. Its Location & Hours page says MM 83, bayside. Its home page gives no mile marker.
  • Lorelei. Its site gives only “MM 82, bayside” and no street number. OpenStreetMap files it at 96 Madeira Road.

Mile markers on the water side

Some Village rules are tied to places. Ordinance 22-05 bans vessels from the area about 300 feet off Port Antigua Beach and White Marlin Beach on Lower Matecumbe Key. It also makes the Whale Harbor Wheel Ditch a Slow Speed Minimum Wake zone, and sets a $250 civil penalty for violations. The Village says sea turtles nest mainly between mile markers 72 and 83, mostly on the Atlantic shoreline, during the nesting season of April 15 to October 31.
